Why Are We Doing This? A Simple Sailing Lesson Turned Into a Full-Blown Obsession

It all started on vacation with a sailing 101 lesson in Galveston, Texas, in April 2024. We were game because we love to expand our horizons by learning new things, and if it’s a bit adventurous, all the better.

I had never sailed before, and it had been years since Alex had been at the helm. We had already dreamed of sailing in Greece someday, so we wanted to experience the feel of a sailboat and see if this was for us.

We walked away from that lesson completely hooked, eyes wide with the realization that a world of friendly sailing spots awaited exploration.

So, we did what any newly minted sailing enthusiasts would do: we dove headfirst into researching the best places to set sail—little to no experience required.
